Some of the Canada’s best and brightest undergraduates gathered in Vancouver from February 1 to 3 for the national finals of the business plan competition Enterprize 2008. They competed for a top tier prize of $20,000 in cash and a shot at transforming their business idea into reality. VerifyRx, a federally incorporated company from the University of New Brunswick, took the top prize. The second place winner was Daily Splice a company from the University of Victoria who we’ve been following since the regional competition (watch for their pitch once we launch our Beta site.) Third place was awarded to TechTouch, from the Schulich School of Business at York University. Congratulations to all!

Charles Voon, Chairperson of Enterprize 2008 stated that “over 300 delegates from every corner of the country came to participate in interactive workshops, business case panel sessions and other exciting events held at the Sheraton Wall Centre in downtown Vancouver.” Indeed there were many diverse participants from students studying business, and practicing entrepreneurs, to VCs and Angel Investors. One of the conference’s speakers traded up from a paper clip to a house. . .

Current business leaders and successful investors and entrepreneurs like Ean Jackson, Wayne Edgar and Ralph Turfus speak to the event’s value and impact or as Ralph says “the type of students that attend this type of event” will help “Canada’s productivity problems.”

Karen Chan of Enterprize and Kunal Gupta, Board Chairman of the Impact Entrepreneurship organization; provide further insights on the contributions of the Facebook generation, events like Enterprize and, most importantly, taking action!
