CBC TV's DragonsLast year, fundfindr helped top start-ups that we featured on fundfindr.com or had networked with get an audience with the producers of CBC TV’s Dragon’s Den.  The producers at the time told us they appreciate our ability to filter deal flow and that the Dragon’s were getting testy - “if we see one more Web 2.0 start-up…”

That said, whether you are a tech start-up or something more traditional, fundfindr may be able to assist you in standing out from other applicants.

The fact is video is an important part of raising investment today - both to refine your pitch and to distribute it.

If you upload a free video pitch yourself at www.fundfindr.com, we will review and share top prospects with the show’s producers.

Plus you will reach an audience of Angels - not Dragon’s - and be able to easily share your pitch with prospects directly.

If you would like our Riiplay.tv service to help produce a professional video pitch for your application to the Dragon’s Den, Angel Forum, Angelsoft, VANTEC or other investor sites, we’ll make sure as Danny Robinson says “…you look good even if you aren’t”.  Thanks Danny!

Looks like a good week to raise capital in Vancouver with a series of events including Vancouver Enterprise Forum’s Venture Capital Outlook 2009 on Tuesday January 27th.  Find out the current investment climate for tech companies and strategies you can use plus the usual networking and Lightning Talks.

We highly recommend this event if you’re looking to raise capital this year as the speaker line-up is very strong and other investors will be in-house.  Practice your pitch and we will see you there.

fundfindr.tv is pleased to bring you an online replay of the event afterward so you can see the highlights again and retain the knowledge gained.     Like to be notified of this Event worth sharing? Subscribe to our feeds:

One of the voices that cuts through the clutter in the world of start-ups and venture capital is Paul Graham. Paul’s latest post speaks to the realities of starting up in a climate like today. Reality: It may be tougher to find investment. Yes, and valuations are impacted but investment still takes place at events like today’s Angel Forum and otherwise.

Paul Graham from his websiteReality: As Paul shares, recruiting a killer co-founder is more important than the state of the economy. We hear this refrain consistently from investors considering dealflow, most recently Summit Partners out of Boston, who are following Vancouver start-ups. While a later stage investor, Summit reinforce that the team is job 1 to address for fundability so be realistic about your gaps … then fill them!

On the positive side in a bad economy, competition lessens and as he wraps up the lesson, he reaffirms the gospel that “for a given team on a given technology the time to act is always now.”

As fundfindr.tv strives to share the best resources, advice and content around entrepreneurship with you this post is too good not to re-blog. Some of my other favorite essays well worth your time are Lies we tell kids and How not to die.

Paul is one of the partners in YCombinator for those in the know (yes the 10 million of you who viewed a page on his site in 2007) and for those not - here is the bio from his site:

Paul Graham's booksPaul Graham is the author of On Lisp (1993), ANSI Common Lisp (1995), and Hackers & Painters (2004). In 1995, he and Robert Morris started Viaweb, the first ASP, which in 1998 became Yahoo! Store. In 2002 he discovered a simple spam filtering algorithm that inspired the current generation of filters. He has an AB from Cornell and a PhD in Computer Science from Harvard.
