Last year, fundfindr helped top start-ups that we featured on fundfindr.com or had networked with get an audience with the producers of CBC TV’s Dragon’s Den. The producers at the time told us they appreciate our ability to filter deal flow and that the Dragon’s were getting testy - “if we see one more Web 2.0 start-up…”
That said, whether you are a tech start-up or something more traditional, fundfindr may be able to assist you in standing out from other applicants.
The fact is video is an important part of raising investment today - both to refine your pitch and to distribute it.
If you upload a free video pitch yourself at www.fundfindr.com, we will review and share top prospects with the show’s producers.
Plus you will reach an audience of Angels - not Dragon’s - and be able to easily share your pitch with prospects directly.
If you would like our Riiplay.tv service to help produce a professional video pitch for your application to the Dragon’s Den, Angel Forum, Angelsoft, VANTEC or other investor sites, we’ll make sure as Danny Robinson says “…you look good even if you aren’t”. Thanks Danny!

On the eve of the launch of another season of CBC’s Dragon’s Den and today’s event featuring some of the top Angel investors on the West Coast, Being a Director in the 21st Century - Angel Investor Workshop, we are pleased to present Part II in our exlusive fundfindr.tv interview with Mike Volker. Mike was one of the star faculty for the Angel Investor Workshop along with Basil Peters, previously featured on fundfindr.tv here and primary organizer, Bob Chatworth-Musters. For Part I of Mike’s fundfindr.tv Interview, click here and look for Part III in early October where Mike discusses Angel Funds and much more.
Along with Basil and Mike, Bob is a driving force in the entrepreneurship and innovation space in the NorthWest. Bob Chatworth-Musters has an extensive background in corporate finance, international banking and private investment management in Vancouver, the Middle East and London, England. In 1997, he started the ANGEL Forum - Vancouver - one of the largest angel groups in Canada and he is a Director of the Canada’s National Angel Organization.
Attended one of the seminars in the New Ventures BC competition tonight and I was impressed by the content and presentation by Angel and Vancouver Tech fixture, Mike Volker (and the huge turn-out!). Mike shared early tails of being an early investor in RIM, what angel investors are looking for and the huge impact they make vs. VCs in the local market. Echoing earlier interviews with successful entrepreneurs like Strutta’s Danny Robinson and as we’ve reported earlier, Mike emphasized “no-one reads the business plan, they look at the executive summary.” The business plan is for you and your team. Of course, that is why our pitch pages on www.fundfindr.com feature the video elevator pitch and executive summary! Investments are made in passionate entrepreneurs with skin in the game, who understand their market, how they make money and ultimately, have investors “like them.”
Like we say at fundfindr, venture dating has rules and we’re here to help you know them! We’ve even thrown our hat in the ring for the competition and we’ll be posting again along the way. For more on Mike’s presentation click here.

Well, some of you figured out that our post and news release yesterday on World Celebrity Idol had a bit of hype built into it given the April 1st release - if you figured it out, good for you especially our url, world rent lol .com. As we said, we were having fun but we are very serious about our mandate to find the next rising business stars and connect them to the investment community. We had a great time launching at the Massive Tech Show and kudos to Lindsey Smith and the whole team for a massive event. Great to connect with many small businesses, start-ups and service providers and the reaction to fundfindr was awesome - thank you! Look for our video coverage coming soon!
A couple rising stars we met that we’d like to bring to your attention are Florence Leung of PeerFX and Colleen Nystedt of Movieset.
Florence is in early stages but has a great concept of democratizing foreign-exchange and is now looking for angel investment - we recommend you check PeerFX out as a great opportunity and we will have her pitch on fundfindr.com very soon. Check out PeerFX on Dragon’s Den in this video - they got the deal but later turned it down because of the valuation. As we stated in our post on Dragon Jim Treliving, we’ll be sharing some other Dragon’s Den insights in future posts.
Colleen is further along the venture dating process, having raised approximately $1Million but is now at the VC round. We are impressed by the concept of a fan-based community that brings them behind-the-scenes and engages them in a dialogue with producers before the film’s release. Well done Colleen and we will look forward to highlighting your progress and potential to the investment community.
fundfindr.com is all about sharing the next Business Idols with investors and the rest of the fundfindr community. Stay tuned, compete, comment and enjoy the fun and let’s help create some big wins.
Fusion Digital Media Venture Forum and was hosted by New Media BC with support from Telefilm Canada and the National Research Council of Canada and took place February 20-21, 2008. This forum proved that BC is a leader in the New Media industry. Over 20 new media companies pitched their ideas in two formats: either eight minute pitch with 2 minute Q&A for more advanced stage ventures or five minutes pitch only to numerous investors, and later presented demos of their innovations. Investors and well established CEOs also presented on a range of topics from financing innovation to entry through to exit strategies. A most notable keynote speaker was Adeo Ressi, the founder of The Funded. Watch for his full interview coming soon.
