fundfindr.tv recently had the pleasure of capturing Technology Legend Mossadiq Umedaly in video on behalf of Vancouver Enterprise Forum. Well worth a riiplay if you attended or just wish to gain insights on pathways to success.
Here is the backgrounder from VEF: Mossadiq is used to doing things big. At Ballard he helped to grow the company value from $10 million to $6 billion. At Xantrex he transformed the company from a small niche player to a world leader in advanced power electronics, with revenues growing from $10 million to $234 million when it was sold to Schneider Electric for $500 million this September. With Jeff Petersen as moderator for our “fireside chat”, he and Mossadiq will talk about the challenges both Ballard and Xantrex faced from their early days through their successful IPOs, Mossadiq’s advice on growing a small company into a major success, his views on strategic partnerships and the evolving alternative energy sector gained as Chair of BC Hydro.

Energy conservation was the theme of the night at New Ventures BC Award Ceremony at the SFU Segal School of Business, and the excitement of the competition was captured by fundfindr.tv. This video captures the competitor experience, gratitude to their mentors and build drama for the awards where the winners of the 2008 competition were announced. All three top awards went to entrepreneurial ideas focused on energy conservation.
All three top prize winners are located in the Lower Mainland region and were awarded for their innovative and ground-breaking technological ideas.
“It’s always interesting to see which companies our panel awards the top prizes,” says Ernie Love, Chair of BC Ventures Society. “I think the fact that all three winners work within the energy conservation field really speaks to BC’s place on the international map as a leader in sustainability and our entrepreneurs are clearly making a large contribution to that reputation.”
Local Vancouver company Saltworks Technologies took home two prizes – the coveted BC Hydro first place of $60,000 as well as the BC Hydro sustainability award of $20,000. The Enbridge second place award went to West Vancouver’s Small Energy Group while third place went to Squamish-located Echoflex Solutions. All three also received BC Innovation Council Proof-of-Concept awards - dollar amounts below.
